Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent special Christmas gifts to commanders deployed in Ukraine, intended to salute their bravery and boost their morale. On Orthodox Christmas Day, Putin met with Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, to extend greetings and make a special request. He asked the Patriarch to consecrate crosses and icons he had prepared as gifts for the commanders. "They'll be pleased to receive these symbols of faith consecrated by you," Putin said. The Patriarch then read a prayer and sprinkled holy water on the gift boxes, blessing them.
